The 2023 Ryder Cup is here and the man who will be leading the charge for Team Europe on home soil is Rory McIlroy.

For Rory, he’s done just about everything in the game of golf (except win The Masters), but the Ryder Cup is still one of his favourite events which comes around every few years.

Rory McIlroy Ryder Cup Record

Rory McIlroy has played in the Ryder Cup six times in his career, the first of which came at Celtic Manor Resort in 2010, where Europe won 1412–1312.

Of the six events he’s played in, Rory has been on the winning team on four of those occasions, most recently in 2018 at Le Golf National in France.

He’s played a total of 28 matches in the fourball, foursomes and singles, winning 14 points.

McIlroy’s World Ranking At The Ryder Cup

Currently at world number two, it’s the highest position Rory has come into a Ryder Cup since 2014 when he was world number one.

Over the previous two events, McIlroy has been outside of the world’s top five and most recently he was ranked 13th at the 2021 Ryder Cup.

In his first-ever Ryder Cup, Rory was ranked at number eight in the world and went on to have a very successful first event.

McIlroy’s Overall Performance At The Ryder Cup

Out of the 28 Ryder Cup matches he’s played, McIlroy has won only 12 of those, halving four and losing the remaining 12. This gives him a winning record of just 43%.

The highest number of points he’s been able to achieve at a Ryder Cup is 3. These came in 2012, 2014 and 2016.

But his worst showing came at the 2021 Ryder Cup where he only managed to pick up one point in the final day singles.

His biggest match win to date came in 2014 when he beat Rickie Fowler 5&4 in the last day singles, but in 2021 he received his biggest defeat losing in the foursomes 5&3 to Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.

McIlroy always seems to have trouble starting well at a Ryder Cup. He’s won just five matches from 12 on the first day of the event.

The 2nd and final days are usually where McIlroy picks up the majority of his match wins, having won 65% of points on the second day and 58% of points on the final day.

Despite losing a fair few number of matches in his Ryder Cup career, 50% of those matches were lost by just one hole. But perhaps more astonishing is the number of matches where he’s lost by at least 4 holes, 41.7%.

Rory Mcilroy Ryder Cup Fourballs Record

In the fourball matches, Rory has won just four of his 11 matches.

His biggest win came in 2016 against Matt Kuchar and Dustin Johnson when he and Thomas Pieters won 3&2.

McIlroy and Pieters paired up well in 2016, winning both of the matches they played together.

Rory Mcilroy Ryder Cup Foursomes Record

For the foursomes, has won five, halved one and lost five. This gives him a better foursomes record than fourballs.

He’s had many different partners for the foursomes matches including Poulter and McDowell, but the most successful pairing came with Garcia winning 112 points from two.

Rory Mcilroy Ryder Cup Singles Record

The singles is where McIlroy has performed his best, winning half of his matches and halving one.

As one of the strongest players on the European Team, McIlroy is usually sent out early on to try and get a result on the board.

His only two defeats in the singles were in 2016 and 2018, most memorably in 2016 when he went toe to toe with Patrick Reed, only to lose 1 down on the last hole.
