Burns On Fire In Austin

Welcome to The Weekly Slice.

We’re like a 375 yard drive to 3 feet, but in newsletter format.

Spring is here. Let’s talk golf.

Tour Roundup

PGA Tour

I love watching Match Play golf and the WGC-Dell Match Play certainly didn’t disappoint.

5 days of the best players in the world going head to head, it doesn’t get much better.

Sam Burns came out on top for the week, after a  6 and 5 victory over fellow countryman, Cameron Young.

It was also a good week for Rory McIlroy in his final event before The Masters. The world number 3 managed to beat Scottie Scheffler 2 and 1 in the 3rd place playoff match.

This drive was also pretty good, on his way to a win in the 2nd match:

I wonder what the USGA and R&A thought of it…

It was also a good week for Englishman, Matt Wallace,  who picked up his first win on the PGA Tour in the Dominican Republic.

A final round 66 left him one shot clear at the top from Denmark’s Nicolai Hojgaard.

The World Of Golf

Golf Ball Change Opposed

Last week I mentioned the poll that Taylormade were carrying out to determine what the everyday golfer thinks of the proposed golf ball change for elite competitors.

Well, it turns out not many are too keen on the idea.

Only 2 out of 10 think the change would be a good idea.  Out of the 44,517 golfer’s that completed the survey, a whopping 81% disagreed with the proposal.

For me, the beauty of golf is us mere mortals can use the same equipment as the best players in the world. I can play the same Taylormade TP5 around my local course, as McIlroy is using at Augusta National next week.

And that’s a beautiful thing.

Limited Edition Paradym

It’s one of the fastest new drivers to be released in years, but Callaway have added a  limited edition version of their Paradym driver.

Just in time for The Masters, the driver will feature a green and yellow profile.

And the even better news? It will only cost you just under $700…

Augusta National Women’s Amateur

As mentioned, The Masters kicks off next week.

But if you fancy seeing a few more of the world’s best golfers competing around the famous venue, the  Augusta National Women’s Amateur also gets underway this week.

The field features the best female amateur golfers in the world and has a strong British contingent, including current Women’s Amateur Champion, Jess Baker.

After 36 holes at the nearby Champions Retreat Golf Club, the top 30 and ties will compete on the iconic Augusta National and walk the same fairways as the game’s greatest.

What’s In The Bag

Take a look at what Sam Burns was using to win last week in Austin.

Ed’s Golf

I was away with the family last weekend, so no numbers to share unfortunately.

However, Spring is finally here. Longer days. More hours for golf. And The Masters is next week!

The golf season is finally upon us and I’m super excited.

Something Useful

The difference I see in a lot of mid to high handicaps compared to better players is the way they strike an iron.

Learning how to compress your irons is a great skill and will take your iron play to the next level.

Check out this great video for improving your ball striking:

Something Funny

The absolute arrogance of this from Billy Horschel…But I love it.
